HARDWICK: I've been writing for years, you know, and when I get to a particular place, city, or different locale, I find myself first of all being challenging by those that love me to write more. Omari Hardwick Talks SPARKLE. And it’s a little different from -- [but] not that much different obviously -- than that which [James Caan] pulled off in a legendary fashion and that being a movie with Kathy Bates, Misery, which obviously this movie will be compared to […]. But I think there's been a lot of strides in that way, and I got to give my hats off to Peele for that and others who forged that run. Obviously, Daniel [Kaluuya], the actor in that, was right there with him, but you all of the sudden got to look at people that looked like us. Since 2012, Power actor Omari Hardwick (Being Mary Jane, Kick-Ass) has been married to Jennifer "Jae" Pfautch, the woman whom he has two children with: Nova and Brave. While she remains private in comparison to her Hollywood husband, it's clear that she keeps the actor grounded, level-headed, and is his number one fan. So far, Omari has only one brother alive, Jamil Hardwick. HARDWICK: Absolutely different... and we kind of talk—it's funny, because we talked about it yesterday at lunch with Whitney, and we were talking about how, you know, three years ago I was hiding in work...and so you kind of sometime...you know, you've been told your whole life, “Be careful what you ask for...be careful what you wish for,”  and they mean in a way of like, once you wish for it or ask for it, you might not necessarily know in what way it's going to come. My character, obviously in that Tyler Perry movie was mostly around Janet Jackson, having played my wife. So...every character from that standpoint I try to make as fat and as full as possible even if it's supposed to be a linear character. I usually run in the hood, 'cause that's what life is to me, so I ran, past Heidelberg and down Cass and past Midtown and did the whole thing and, I actually got a poem out that day, so that kind of set the tone of my Detroit experience. It was a different world for her when she came to acting. But this was perhaps, because of the attachment of that thing called the psychological thriller component, being that in the psychological thriller nature of this. You actually spend a decent amount of the movie injured and hobbling around. And so that added to the unnerving thing that you speak of on a scale and level, and she just pulled it off brilliantly. HARDWICK: Everything...I started out—it was ironic because when I got on the plane in LA, before boarding the plane I met a guy who was actually limbless, and he invited me to a Tigers game. By the time Omari Hardwick landed the starring role of James "Ghost" St. Patrick on the 50 Cent-produced Starz drama Power, the Georgia-native had already been acting for over a decade. I came from a life of attempting to play for the San Diego Chargers and play the season…so I think the most effective way is to figure out individually with each girl what you have in common with her. So, upon me arriving in Detroit, he kind of held me to it, so I went to a Tigers game with him. I've said it before, and I think I'm right in saying this, that we haven't necessarily been seen in the light of [horror]. I mean, she's this icon; she's an actress; she also is the producer of this film, so what is she like when the cameras aren't rolling, and what’s the experience been like for you? The number of tattoos since then has also increased. Can you talk to us about what it's like working on set with Whitney Houston? But I just went for it.
